The kindergarten class had a homework assignment to find out about something exciting and relate it to the class the next day.  When the time came for the little kids to give their reports, the teacher was calling on them one at a time.  She was reluctant to call upon little Johnnie, knowing that he sometimes could be a bit crude.  But eventually his turn came. Little Johnnie walkjed up to the front of the class, and with a piece of chalk, made a small white dot on the blackboard, then sat down.  Well, the teacher couldnt figure out what Johnnie had in mind for his report on something exciting, so she asked him just what that was.

`It's a period.' reported Johnnie.

`Well, I can see that.' she said `but what is so exciting about a period.'

`Damned if I know.' said Johnnie, `but this morning my sister said she missed one, then Daddy had a heart attack, mommy fainted and the man next door shot himself.'

The Titanic was sinking and there werent enough lifeboats, so the captain had to persuade male passengers to jump into the icy waters to make room for women and children.

To the British he said: `You must act like gentlmen.' They jumped.
To the Amercians, he said: `You can be heroes.'  They compiled.
To the Germans, he said: `It's the rule.'  They obeyed.
To the Japanese, he said: `It's the consensus.'  They obliged.

Then came the group of Singaporeans. And they just werent budging until he came up with the appeal: `Free life jackets for those who jump.'

Then came a group of Malaysians.  Before the captain could think of what to say, they yelled `Malaysia Boleh' and they jumped.

Time to reflect and look back

Half a year is almost gone. It is amazing how time flies and we do not realize it. With half year to go, are we half way to our targets, be it personally or financially?

Many of us started the new year outlining great plans or resolutions - making more money, reducing debts, increasing savings , starting to exercise or eating healthier - that are to be accomplished this year.  However, the problem tends to be with actual implementation.

Well, it is time to review our goals and if it falls short, then take corrective measures to bridge the gap.  With just six months to go, it is never too late to start working on our goals again.

Haze go away

The haze is back again. There is no doubt the haze has become an annual phenomenon in Malaysia as well as in South East Asia region. The haze happens almost at the same time of the year.

We are all well informed on where the haze is coming from - Indonesia.  However the current continuous flow of news relating to the haze has it that the country is not the only one to be blamed.   In the past, Indonesia had always been accused of open burning of its forests in order to make way for agricultural activities.  Finger pointing will not solve the issue at hand.

Burning may be the cheapest method for land clearing but it cannot be carried out at the expense of people's health and a country's economy.  Since the solution is not in place, let's just hope that the haze episode will not prolong.

Financial Freedom

What is financial freedom?
Some people see financial freedom as having more than enough money to cover their cost of living without having to work actively.  While for young people, they may see financial freedom as the ability to earn sufficiently without the need to burden their parents.  It could also relate to the freedom of being able to do things whenever they want.

People do not want to worry about money should something unexpected like the loss of a job or a natural disaster strike.

Are we in a position to say that we have financial freedom?

Money is the root of all evil

Most people believe that the love of money is the root of all evil. In the long history of mankind, there are many examples of how money led to the destruction of many societies.  Even now, whether we like it or not we live in an age where life is centred on money.

We need money to buy things, be it for our necessities or our desires.  We may ask ourselves, why we do have to work and spend eight hours or more at our office, even though we may not like the environment, our superiors or our colleagues?

The fact is we must go to work every day simply to earn money.  We need money to maintain our health, to pursue our studies and much more.  Seen in the right context, money can give us a meaningful life.
